April 2025 newsletter

This month: building a moonshot project, joining The Dais at TMU as a fellow, coaching 20+ youth across Canada, and being featured by the Centre for Social Innovation Toronto.

Hello everyone!

Here’s a quick look at what I worked on, celebrated, and made progress on in April 👇

What I’ve Been Up To 📈

  • Building a Moonshot with TKS

I'm working on a moonshot project as part of The Knowledge Society (TKS). For those unfamiliar, a moonshot is a bold attempt to solve a real-world problem with a 10x (not 10%) solution. Here’s a quick video from X (Google’s moonshot factory) explaining it:

  • Redesigning My Personal Website
I've been updating gabrieldalton.com to showcase all of my projects, achievements, and partnerships.

  • Surviving Chemistry 😅
Had my midterm! I don’t usually focus too much on school, but when I do, I go all in.

  • Product Marketing with Formaloo
I’ve been working on creative briefs, positioning, and messaging strategies for Formaloo’s custom CRM. Next up: refining the “remembering forms” feature from a product marketing lens.

  • BC Screen Break Roundtable
I was invited to join the British Columbia Screen Break Roundtable on April 17th in downtown Vancouver. I wrote a short 3-minute reflection you can read here.

  • Sustainable Tech for Ice Cream 🍦
Partnering with Killer Ice Cream to make their website more accessible and environmentally friendly, in exchange for frozen yogurt. Yes, really. A fun example of how I sometimes exchange skills for value in creative ways.

Achievements & Highlights 🏆

  • Featured in an article by the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) – View it here

Centre for Social Innovation article highlights Gabriel Dalton under “Efficient Coding and Optimization” in its guide to sustainable websites.
  • Semifinalist in the Microsoft Global Challenge
My team and I developed a proposal for hotspot-aware cooling systems to dramatically improve energy efficiency in Microsoft’s AI data centres. By using precision fluid dynamics and topology optimization, our solution could reduce chip heat by 13%, lower pressure by 55%, and unlock over $2.4 billion in savings by 2050, while cutting millions of tons of CO₂ emissions.

Although we didn’t make the finals, we received a solid 5.5/7 rating — which our director, Pranav, said is exceptionally hard to earn. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I’m proud of the team and the work we put into this impactful project.

  • Got a reply from the CEO of Vancity Credit Union within 1 minute after pitching a potential partnership:

LinkedIn message from Vancity CEO Wellington Holbrook says, “Would love to see our organization connect with you.”
  • Projected 10x Growth for Oasis of Change Inc.
We’re on track to achieve a 10x increase in both revenue and donations this year compared to our last fiscal cycle. This incredible momentum wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our team and the guidance of our board. Grateful to be building something with real impact — together.

Shoutouts 👏

  1. Abhilash (Abhi) Tripathi, CPA - I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Abhilash after he expressed interest in contributing to the work we're doing at Oasis of Change Inc. A big shoutout to him for his prompt response, thoughtful insights, and the positive energy he brought to our introduction meeting. It’s always inspiring to connect with professionals who genuinely care about impact and are excited to collaborate.

  2. Rajender Singh - I had a truly enriching conversation with Rajender during the BC Screen Break Roundtable. We spoke about my entrepreneurial journey, the values that drive my work, and how I’ll be supporting The Dais in my role as a fellow. Rajender’s warmth, curiosity, and encouragement made a strong impression, and I’m genuinely looking forward to meeting more people through this initiative who are as insightful and inspiring as he is.

What’s Next? 🚀

  • Wrapping up my TKS journey
With less than two months left in the program, I’m continuing to learn from amazing mentors like Pranav! I’m excited for the upcoming TKS Showcase, where students will present what we’ve been building and exploring throughout the year.

  • Mentoring youth through Screen Break
I’m continuing to coach and support over 20 youth champions across Canada as part of the Screen Break initiative — helping them become leaders in responsible tech use.

  • Finalizing 5+ website projects
I’m in the process of completing five (and counting!) custom website builds. Once launched, I’ll be adding them to my live portfolio at gabrieldalton.com — stay tuned!

I always love connecting - whether you’ve got questions, feedback, or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out. Your support truly means the world as I keep learning, building, and growing.

Best,
Gabriel Dalton
